Guidelines for the Blog
You all have learnt about various type of numbers in your previous classes. Infact, it is difficult to think about maths without numbers. Even numbers play an important role in our lives. Almost all things we do involve numbers.
Let us first revise, what you have done before!!!
What is Number ?
A number is a mathematical object used to count, measure, and label.
Number Systems
What is Natural Number?
Set of counting numbers is called the Natural Numbers. The symbol used for natural number is N.
N=1,2,3,4,5,..
What is whole number?
Set of Natural numbers plus Zero is called the Whole Numbers. The symbol used for whole number is W
W=0,1,2,3,4,5,...
Integers
Let’s look at what are integers
Integers is the set of all the whole number plus the negative of Natural Numbers The symbol used for integer is Z.

Z comes from the German word“zahlen”, which means“to count”.
Eg. Z= 7,−6,−5,−4,−3,−2,−1,0,1,2,3,4,5,6,..
Rational Number (Write it down in the notebook)
q ≠ 0
A number is called rational if it can be expressed in the form of p/q where p and q are integers,
( q is not 0). The symbol used for rational number is Q.
‘Rational’ comes from the word ‘ratio’, and Q comes from the word ‘quotient’
Now, answer the following questions:
I am sure , you all, knew the answers.
Now, let’s see what can we conclude out of all these answers
Draw the diagram given below
We can find infinitely many rational numbers between 2 given rational numbers.

- Take your SET-A Mathematics Register
- Our handwriting reflects a lot about us. It will be awesome if you use good presentation and cursive hand writing
- Make a column on the right hand side, if you need to do any rough work
- Write today's date on the line after that. We need to save paper. Write the SDG – 12 : Responsible Consumption and Production. Let us be responsible global citizens. One good thing that Coronovirus is teaching us! That is be responsible global citizens.

6. Is -1 an integer? Is -1 a rational number?
I am sure , you all, knew the answers.
Now, let’s see what can we conclude out of all these answers

2. Every whole number is an integer but not vice versa.
3. Every integer is a rational number but not vice versa.
Now, you can attempt Q4 of Ex1.1 as H.W

Ques: 1. Is zero a rational number? Can you write it in the form
p/ q, where p and q are integers and q ≠ 0?
